Sharing online does not make something more special or more real

A 360-days musing......


My 360-days project is a very private project. I am posting on my website as it gives me some sort of accountability, meaning that I can’t pike out when the going gets tough. However, I am not sharing anything on social media, worrying about the social media worthiness of my words or images, or looking for validation from other people.


Posting on my website means little, as I don’t think anyone ever goes on to my website unless they have been referred there from my social media. I am not doing this project for likes or comments, shares, or reactions. I am not doing it so I can improve my chances of beating the algorithm. I am simply doing it because I genuinely want to live more joyfully with less.


This is real for me, even though I am not sharing. If anything, it is more precious to me because I am not sharing. I am not doing this for anyone else. I am not using a filter, or pretending things are worse or better than what they are. I am simply trying to live in a way that is going to hopefully bring more joy and simplicity to my life.


Sharing online does not make something more special or more real. Sharing online possibly makes it more about what others think. We need less validation and a more genuine desire to live in a way that is ours alone. That is why I am not sharing this. Because the only person I am worried about right now is me.
