It is not the eyes that are blind

Poems for Palestine

The McCarthyist style crackdown on anyone who dares to criticise Israel continues as Creative Australia drops Khaled Sabsabi as their representative to the Venice Biennale. They folded to the pressure of that very powerful lobby and stated publicly that they wanted to avoid debate. Why we allow even the tiniest criticism of a brutal, fascist, apartheid regime to be conflated with antisemitism is beyond me but by God, that lobby is powerful – it pretty much has our politicians and all of mainstream media in the palm of its hands. And when you control the narrative, and people let you, then they will allow pretty much anything to happen. Just ask the Nazis.

It is not the eyes that are blind.

It is not the eyes that are blind,

but the heart that has forgotten how to feel.

It is not the ears that are deaf

but the mind that no longer cares what is real.

It is not the voice that is mute,

but a tongue that says it doesn’t concern me.

When they have our eyes, ears, mind and voice,

the only loser is humanity.
